Obsidian

Obsidian is a powerful tool for personal knowledge management (PKM). It is based entirely on local Markdown files and enables the connection of ideas through bidirectional links.

Core Concept

Local-first & plain-text: your thoughts belong to you. Because all data is stored in open formats (Markdown), there is no vendor lock-in. Through plugins, Obsidian can be extended from a simple notepad into a complex project management tool.

Assessment

  • Use case: Research, structuring this handbook, meeting notes, and technical knowledge management.
  • Advantage: Extremely fast, infinitely flexible, and ideal for finding connections through the graph view.
  • Limitation: Collaboration in teams requires additional synchronisation tools (such as Git).
