Shopware
Shopware is an e-commerce platform developed in Germany, notable for its focus on storytelling and modern technology (Vue.js, Symfony).
Core concept
API-First and headless-ready: with version 6, Shopware was rebuilt entirely on a modern architecture. It offers an excellent balance between out-of-the-box features and high customisability. Shopware 6.7 introduces native AI Copilot features, enabling shop operators to generate content with AI assistance directly in the admin interface (availability depends on edition and version). The Community Edition is available under the MIT licence.
Assessment
- Use case: Mid-size to large online retailers looking for a flexible platform with a strong focus on design and UX.
- Advantage: Excellent localisation (DACH region), modern technical foundation, and strong community support.
- Limitation: The new architecture requires experienced developers (Symfony/Vue); licence costs for Professional/Enterprise editions are significant.
